London Toast Theatre
Fast and competent legal advice was decisive for a theatre getting a medical certificate from an actor who had gone to Paris to shoot a film rather than fulfilling his contract dismissed
LONDON TOAST THEATRE is an English-speaking theatre company based in Copenhagen, but without its own stage. Each year, the company performs for up to 60,000 audience members. The company was founded in 1982 by the Artistic Director, Vivienne McKee, and the Managing Director, Søren Hall. Every year, LONDON TOAST THEATRE performs the panto show “Crazy Christmas Cabaret” in Tivoli’s Glassal, but the company has also performed plays by William Shakespeare and contemporary, British playwrights such as Arnold Wesker, Harold Pinter, and Alan Ayckbourn.
The collaboration between LONDON TOAST THEATRE and attorney and partner at BACH Law, Claes Christensen, began in 2015. Five days after the premiere of “Don’t Touch Nefertiti”, a leading actor had requested sick leave for the rest of the run but simultaneously chose to travel to Paris to do a test shoot for a minor part in a Hollywood production. That led theatre director Søren Hall to contact Claes Christensen, who had come highly recommended by Kåre Tranberg Smidt:
“Claes reacted promptly to my inquiry and had the right competences to handle the case. He really listened and wrote some good responses to the opponent. We decisively won the case in the City Court and achieved the same result at the District Court,” Søren Hall explains.
Søren Hall is impressed with how the medical certificate was dismissed in court and praises the way Claes Christensen handled the case. During the entire process, he had a positive and reassuring collaboration with his counsel:
“Claes is a skilled attorney, who is very responsive. He is friendly and approachable and quickly familiarised himself with the case. At the same time, he let me have the final say in whether we should accept a settlement or proceed with the case in court,” says Søren Hall, who has since recommended Claes Christensen to several of his colleagues in the theatre industry.
